What it's all about.

Crossing strongly formed social boundaries, getting to know those who surround us every day yet make up part of the "invisible" community that we exist in constantly.  How do I feel?  How do they feel?  What moment will arise?  Who are these people who surround me every day, and what makes them beautiful and unique? This project is an investigation into these questions, and many more.  The artist attempts to overcome her own anxieties about breaking social norms and unspoken rules for behavior and body language in public places.

Future plans.

Eventually the artist hopes to display many of these images in a single car on Montreal STM metro - specifically, the green line - where the passengers of the 80 bus get on at place des arts every day.  The purpose of this is to celebrate the differences and similarities, the delicacies and beauties of those who are real and present in our every day.  These images will replace advertisements and idealized 'imaginary' people with real individuals.  Hopefully, they will cause passengers to consider more closely the environment they are in, and appreciate those around them.  Beauty can be found in the details of the people who surround you every day, unique personalities which can be seen in details so small as their folded hands. This project intends to help transit users to engage with (be aware of) and appreciate those who surround them.  If we all are more present and true, perhaps we can all care more for one another.

Your rights to the display of your image.

If you were related to this site by the artist herself and have had a photo of your hands taken, and you do not desire to have them as part of the project being displayed in the metro, please click on the tab "contact artist" and do so with this request that they not be displayed.  The same goes for if you would like your hands to not be displayed on the website.  If you do not contact the artist, your assent to the taking of the image will be understood as implied consent.
None of your personal information will ever be shared (unless, perhaps, you want it to be.)  Please consider participating and helping make this project a reality.  This is a strictly personal (and academic) art piece, with no monetary gain coming to any of the participants or the artist herself.  In fact, printing the images will be a cost to the artist.  This project is being done in conjunction with a studio arts course at Concordia University.  If you have any questions, comments, or other - please feel free to contact the artist.
